We are moved by the conviction that God wants us to flourish in Jesus loving presence. We believe that He can use almost any aspect of life to grow us up in Jesus. We are convinced that God designed sex to do just that: sex is one of God’s tools to help us grow up into a mature relationship with our partner, and with our God. Many in church history have struggled to see how sex and sexuality fit in the gospel of Jesus’ love. Some have come to reject sex entirely. Others have suggested that sex has nothing to do with being a Christian – we can do whatever we want. This ministry suggests that Christian sexuality is one form of discipleship, a form that is shared between two partners. Just as discipleship calls us to “work out” God’s love in our salvation – Philippians 2:12

Many contemporary Christian couples struggle with this question, which drives some to walk away from the faith. Others lose all hope of having a satisfying sexual relationship. Playful Practice takes a novel look at Christian sexuality, arguing that couples can enjoy great sex while serving the Lord. It questions conventional wisdom, which approaches Christian sexuality as a matter of being either spiritual or sensual—not both.
Roy M. Myers, Ph.D., D.Min., a pastoral theologian who served as a military chaplain, educator, and leader in ministry for over thirty-three years, invites Christian couples to live in the tension between sacrificial love and indulgent love. He describes Biblical Christian sexuality as something built around God’s love, and something that leads couples into the very presence of Christ.
You can enjoy passion in your sex life with your partner, but it requires practicing in a way that pleases your partner and pleases God.

I am excited to offer a new – and not so new – perspective on Christian marital intimacy and sexuality. Many Christian couples feel frustrated by the tendency to domesticate Christian marital intimacy and sexuality in Christian cultures. This kind of domestication often limits God's love, making love primarily self-sacrifice or primarily self-indulgence. When approaching love from the Biblical perspective, Christian sexuality must include both self-giving and indulgent aspects of love. God’s love in the Bible is both Ephesians 4 – mutual submission – and Song of Songs – wild passionate abandon with one’s partner. God’s love does its work within the magical both-and of spirituality and sensuality. God’s love can guide partners toward the intimacy and joy they seek.
There is amazing freedom to enjoy and discover great depths of intimacy in God’s design. Paradoxically, that freedom does not come from freeing ourselves from Good’s design. Freedom comes as we learn to embrace all of love as the crucial element in God’s design. A mature freedom in Jesus comes from partners doing the hard work of loving and being loved.
The difference between spirituality and sensuality can feel very intense, even furious. Christian sexuality invites us to hold the often-furious tension between self-giving and self-indulgent aspects of love. Allowing the tension to work, God’s love can free us to real joy and deep intimacy together. Ultimately, the tension inside of God’s love brings us to Jesus, the only one who can make sense of God’s eternal love. I am amazed by how God has used love to draw people, to mold them, and to inspire them to become part of God’s love in the world. God's design in sex is like every other gift God gave us: Sexuality invites Christian partners to know God and to enjoy Him forever.
